Me & My Muse – Day 1241: Smart Phone & A New Computer!

Remember Dumb Phone and New Phone (you would have to be reading this for a long time to remember this)?  This time, I actually did it.  Just yesterday, I went and bought a brand new phone.  A Samsung Galaxy J3V.  Feast your eyes on this!

new-phone

In addition to that, I just bought my new computer.  A Lenova ThinkPad with the full suite.  Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.  It’s official.  Christmas has come a month early.

Muse:  Awesome!  Congrats on the phone and the computer!  It’s about time that you got a smart phone.

I know.  I’ve been holding out for as long as possible.

Muse:  I’ve had one for a while now.  I don’t know what took you so long.  Now I can add you to Snapchat!

Time to get working on Ideation now.

Muse:  I’ll let you do that.  Back to my TARDIS!

*Muse re-enters pink TARDIS*

Time to cut to the chase.  I got my bill paid (not the one with the computer and phone, thank goodness) and my lunch packed.  I will now work on my Ideation work.

Today’s high is going to be 54 degrees and the silver lining is getting my new phone and laptop (which was actually yesterday, but I’m still celebrating!).

To those of you who like getting new things, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  There.  I added you to Snapchat.  Please add me back!

Me & My Muse – Day 1240: A Couple Big Updates…

I’ll elaborate on them tomorrow.  With it being so late, I’m going to turn in for tonight.

Today’s high is going to be 58 degrees and the silver lining is getting those awesome updates.

To those of you who love getting new stuff, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse;  New stuff, huh?  I know what you got, but I’ll wait until tomorrow…

Me & My Muse – Day 1239: Click Till You Drop

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet? If not, now is the time.

Now quick! Go to your preferred websites and order everything on your list before you get that dreaded 404 error.

For anyone who took part in Black Friday, it continues. What, you ask? Well, only THE biggest holiday for online retailers everywhere: Cyber Monday.

For those who hate the Black Friday crowds, today is your day.  All you need to do is relax. You don’t have to go anywhere and all the best sales are just a click away. And the only downside is a server failure.

While there are so many deals to take advantage of today, I am not doing anything of the sort. I don’t need another large credit card bill to pay off so I am going to pass on this day for this year.

For anyone else who wants the deals, now is the time.   Stop reading this, type your favorite online store in the address bar and start shopping!

Muse:  I’m almost done with my shopping.

What would you need to shop for?

Muse:  What kind of question is that?  Time Ladies need things just as much as anyone else in the universe!

I’ll get to that later.

Muse:  Okay.  So far, I’ve got a lot of my shopping done.

Good.  I now need to get ready.

Today’s high is going to be 45 degrees and the silver lining is my friend coming over later.

To those of you who love shopping online, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  It’s about to happen.  The Doctor will need to bring us back to the timeline or we’ll experience all of last week all over again.  Oh, I’m going to hate this!  I don’t want to be a baby again…

Me & My Muse – Day 1238: Sleepy Sunday

To reflect, this Sunday has been quite peaceful. I went to small church and second service.  I then had breakfast with my grandparents afterwards.

What remains is the rest of the day.  I will take it easy and enjoy what’s left of this Sunday.  The gifts are wrapped and my Christmas list is done.  All in all, this Thanksgiving weekend was pretty good.

Today’s high is going to be 42 degrees and the silver lining is having another day off.

To those of you who are enjoying this Sunday, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  My company just left.  All I need to do is clean the house…And wash all the bedding.  Better get started!

Me & My Muse – Day 1237: Making a List and Checking it Twice

Gonna find out who’s naughty or nice?  Nope.  I’m not referring to Santa Claus here.  This is not his list that we’re talking about, but the Christmas list that I’ll be working on today.  Having done a lot of Christmas shopping yesterday, it’s time that I make a list of my own.  I’ll be doing this and will also be enjoying this wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.  There is so much food left over and so much to be thankful for.  That is pretty much the gist for today.

Today’s high is going to be 42 degrees and the silver lining is getting off of work early and playing more of my game.

To those of you who are enjoying your Thanksgiving weekend, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  Heh!  I love your title!  That reminds me.  I need to start on my creating my own Christmas list myself.  How will others know what to get me?  I’ll have to get started on that…

Me & My Muse – Day 1236: Shop Till You Drop

If you are currently reading this, then you’re already late for the sales.  The sales that many hope to get on Black Friday.

And fortunately, I can say that I’m not one of them.  I am not a Black Friday shopper.  Never have, and never will be.

Muse:  Neither am I.  I don’t know how some people can even bother to stand in those long lines.  It’s crazy if you ask me.

Yes it is.  What are you still doing up?

Muse:  There were so many dishes from Thanksgiving that it took me forever to get them done.  How did it go?

It went fine.  All of the dishes that I named were made.  Dessert followed about an hour later.

Muse:  I had about the same here.  With so many to feed, it took a while to go through the table.  Anyway,  I need to finish cleaning.  I’ll see you in the morning, when the company leaves!

What more can I say about Black Friday?  Only this.  It’s a retail holiday that I never want to associate with.  The lines are too long, despite the deals that are promised.  I’m looking forward to Cyber Monday, a day that I prefer much more than a holiday dedicated to the die-hard shopper.

But as much as I hate it, I’ll be in the tail end of the Black Friday rush, since I want to do some shopping after work.

Today’s high is going to be 42 degrees and the silver lining will be getting paid when I work later at Little Caesars.

For those of you who love cashing in on the deals on Black Friday, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  There.  The dishes are done.  I can finally go off to bed!

Me & My Muse – Day 1235: Happy Thanksgiving!

It is finally here.  The day of feasts and floats.  The day of family, friends and to some, football.  One of the least commercialized holidays of them all.  Well, almost.  With many businesses trying to extend Black Friday by another day, the tradition of Thanksgiving is at stake.

But for everyone else (and that goes for most of us) it is the day that we go to our aunt’s and uncle’s house, or grandparent’s. On the flipside, it can be a house taken over by relatives.  But wherever you spend it, the takeover is that of love, with the warmth of family filling every corner of the house.

For me, I will be staying home.  The expected party will include two families.  My family, my grandparents, my uncle, and my sister’s boyfriend.  A hungry party of 9.  Well, actually 8, since one of us won’t be eating the traditional Thanksgiving spread.

And the spread would be something that you would expect your typical Thanksgiving Feast to be.  Turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole, cranberry-orange relish, roasted brussel spouts, squash, red onions, garlic stuffed olives, mashed potatoes, and gravy.

Thanksgiving is also the time for us to be thankful for the things that we have.  Despite how much or how little we have, we all possess the greatest gift of all.  The gift of life.  And that is something to be thankful for.

Muse:  Indeed it is!

So how is your Thanksgiving so far?

Muse:  It’s going good so far.  I can’t talk for long.  I just got up.  I’m getting the turkey out and thawing it.

You’re having a Thanksgiving feast for Intangibles?  Won’t this come off to them as weird?

Muse:  They’re perfectly fine with my decision to adopt a few of your Tangible rules.  And this isn’t the first Thanksgiving dinner that I made for them…

Well, it seems like you’re busy with all of your guests.  I’ll let you take care of them.  I’ll let you know how it goes with my company later, okay?

Muse:  Yes.  Now I need to get the coffee going, and the turkey thawed.  And the TV turned on so I can catch the parade…

Oh!  One more thing.  What are you thankful for?

Muse:  I’m thankful that I am not a baby.  For for these special few days, you used the TARDIS to withdraw us from that timeline…I’m also thankful for all the food that I get to eat today.  We’ll talk later, alright?  Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!

Muse:  Oh!  I hear them!  I’m coming!  Who was I talking to?  Just Kyle, the one that I told you about…

Like her, I’m also thankful for that delicious food.  And I almost forgot to mention that the stuffing is made with grandma’s special recipe.  A recipe that my mom has perfected over the years.  For instance, the original recipe used too much salt, so she had to adjust it.

And I also forgot about the desserts.  There will be a couple there, believe me.

Today’s high is going to be 41 degrees and the silver lining will be eating the delicious Thanksgiving feast.

To all of you who are going to be feasting with your family and friends, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  Turkey?  Check.  Coffee maker turned on?  Check.  TV turned on?  Check.  Time to get Thanksgiving started, everyone!

Me & My Muse – Day 1234: Thanksgiving Eve

With Thanksgiving being tomorrow, I can now relax.  To summarize,  I have this to say about work.  Today was the Wednesday shift from hell.  Because everyone is preparing their Thanksgiving dinner or shopping for it, my store was packed.  With record sales today, it got pretty crazy in trying to keep up with the rush.  Due to this struggle, someone actually had to be called in early.  It was very stressful, but I had my game face on and I made it.  To those who were still working when I left, I wished them all luck and a very happy Thanksgiving.

After that, I went to Compucom Computers and made a down payment on my laptop.  They made a work order and I put $200 down.  I’ll be paying the rest when I pick it up next week.

Oh, and ideation is cancelled today.  Everyone is with their family, so it doesn’t make sense to have it today.

With me wanting to relax now, I will end this entry.

Muse:  Please do.  Family comes first!

Are you looking forward to Thanksgiving?

Muse:  Am I ever!  I already have all the food taken care of.  It only takes a second to prepare everything with Intangible magic.  Remedy, Nurture and several other Intangible friends will be coming over.

It should be a fun gathering.

Muse:  I know.  I need to go on the finishing touches.

Okay.  I’ll let you do that.
Today’s high is going to be 36 degrees and the silver lining is enjoying the evening before Thanksgiving.

To those of you who are busy preparing for Thanksgiving, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  I only have one more thing to make:  desserts!  Better get on that!

Me & My Muse – Day 1233: Saying Goodbye

Is this goodbye for good?  No.  I’m not talking about that goodbye.  I’m talking about saying goodbye to someone at work.

Today marks another major milestone at work.  Someone who has worked there for quite a while is working their last shift today.  Unlike before, I won’t be closing with them like I closed with another person who left our store in July of last year.  Since I pretty much work opening shifts now, I bid my farewell to them when they arrived, which was coincidentally when I was ending my shift.  They contributed a lot to the store, and I will really miss them.

With Thanksgiving in just two days, I’m beginning to coast.  I eagerly anticipate the food.  I greatly look forward to the warm gathering of family.

Today, I worked my morning shift and said goodbye to the person that was leaving.  I then came home after calling Compucom.  I plan on buying a laptop so I wanted to get some extra information from them.

I think it’s time to end this…

Muse:  WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!

The Doctor:  WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!

No…We are not going to deal with this story arc right now.  Wait!  Didn’t the Doctor say something about freezing time and removing this planet from the timeline?

*closes eyes and has a flashback*

The Doctor:  Don’t worry about Thanksgiving.  I can freeze time and extract all of us and this planet from this timeline.  It has a temporary effect, so it would only last a few days.

Let’s see.  How do I do this?  I would like to use my One Privilege, but I would like to bypass the Dark Muse’s knowledge of me using it.  That’s it!  I’ll use The Doctor’s TARDIS!

*teleports to The Doctor’s TARDIS*

How do I use this?  One Privilege, give me the knowledge of using his TARDIS!

*body flashes and then the TARDIS flashes*

Ahh…It’s that simple, huh?  Well, I guess it would be simple to me now that I have The Doctor’s knowledge on how to use this flying box…

Okay…It will be alright.  You can trust me…

*TARDIS flashes, and begins emanating a powerful light that begins to cover the entire horizon*

It needs more power.

*presses a few levers, which increases the power of the TARDIS*

There.  Freeze time!  There.  Now to extract this planet from this timeline…

*TARDIS flashes with the planet Earth and vanishes from existence*

There.  We are out of the timeline for a few days.  Time will proceed as normal, but in its own fixed loop.  All things on Earth are normal again. One Privilege, ENGAGE!

The Doctor:  You did it!  Didn’t you?

Actually…

*The Doctor looks at various different screens*

The Doctor:  I see.  You took us out of the timeline?  I’ll need to remember to bring us back after Monday.  Otherwise, Tuesday through Monday, these same seven days, will keep repeating in an infinite loop!  Think Groundhog Day only you get an extra six days!

Try Groundhog Week.

Muse:  Indeed.  I’m going to take it easy.  No story arc until Tuesday.  That should be nice.  Back to MY TARDIS.

*Muse teleports back to her pink TARDIS*

The Doctor:  Thanks for bringing us here.  I was going to do it, but I was a helpless infant…

It’s okay.  Your TARDIS trusted me.

The Doctor:  It had to.  I couldn’t operate it.  It had to pick someone else.  It chose you.  An excellent choice.

I’m now going to take it easy.

The Doctor:  Go ahead.  I was just going to get out my guitar…

Bye!

*teleports outside of The Doctor’s TARDIS*

Time to end this now.  Just one more day of work left until I can enjoy Thanksgiving.

Today’s high is going to be 36 degrees and the silver lining is having the rest of this day off.

To those of you who are looking forward to Thanksgiving, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  Time to get some reading done.  I’m a little behind so I better get started…

Me & My Muse – Day 1232: NovemBRRR…

Having been outside today, I have noticed that it is a lot colder than usual.

For November, the weather is finally at average levels.  Should this trend continue, there will certainly be snow before too long.

As something that I forgot to mention yesterday, I actually managed to get some Christmas wrapping done early.  Yes.  I already went shopping and wrapped five gifts before Thanksgiving.  I am definitely on the ball.

Muse:  That might have to wait.  Alaska, Western Canada, Washington, Oregon, and California are starting to get affected by the glowing void.

What’s left?

The Doctor:  After the eastern coast, that’s it.

Any solutions to this?

The Doctor:  Your One Privilege is the only thing that can stop it, but we’re pretty much at stalemate since everything can be undone with her One Privilege.

So we just sit back and watch everyone in the world get transformed into babies?

Muse:  No.   We outsmart them.

The Doctor:  We have to enter the glowing void and go to the source.  Now Kyle, you were able to stop this before, right?

Yes.  I fell asleep and took the privilege from her.

The Doctor:  And then she came back.  The Dark Muse brought her back.  She traveled to a time before she was banished and opened the void.  Stopping this will depend on stopping the Dark Baby Muse and the Dark Muse at the same time.

I see.  So I can stop the Dark Baby Muse and you can stop the Dark Muse.

Dark Muse:  Wonderful plan!  I love the effort that you all put into it!  However, I do see a little flaw.  How are you going to stop me and the Dark Baby Muse if the two of you are babies?

*Dark Muse flashes, transforming Muse and The Doctor into babies*

Turn them back!

Dark Muse:  Why don’t you?  You have the One Privilege, don’t you?

I would, but you would just turn them back.

Dark Muse:  Excellent thinking!  Having the world as a nursery is an amazing thing, isn’t it?  And now we have two baby Time Lords!  Um, actually one.  One of them is a Time Lady…er, em…Time Girl…She’s such a cute one!  Yes!

Muse:  Ehhhh!!!

*Muse shruggs her shoulders at Dark Muse*

They seem to have above average intelligence.  None of them are crying.

Dark Muse:  Oh, it’s because I haven’t made them young enough!  Just a second, dearie…

*Dark Muse flashes, making Muse and The Doctor even younger*

Muse & The Doctor: WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!

Why didn’t you turn me into one?

Dark Muse:  Why?  Because you’re the daddy, remember?  Say hello to all 6 and a half billion of your children!

I don’t think I want that many kids.  So they’re babies now.  What’s next?

Dark Muse:  I don’t know.  Maybe that One Privilege of yours.  You do know that it’s futile at this point, so you might as well hand it over…

What do you think I’m going to do?  I’ll never hand it to you!

Dark Muse:  Unwilling to cooperate, aren’t we?  I already knew that you would never give me your privilege.  But not to worry!  I have other ways of accomplishing this!  Ta ta!

*Dark Muse vanishes in a cloud of smoke*

Well, things just got dire.  I have two crying Gallifreyan babies next to me with very little hope left.  To stop her, I will need to make a clone of myself so I can stop both Dark Baby Muse and Dark Muse at the same time.

But for now, I think I’ll pause the arc for today.  Things can escalate pretty quickly if I don’t.  That, and my friend will be coming over soon.

Today’s high is going to be 33 degrees and the silver lining is my friend coming over.

To those of you who like being with your friends, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!

Oh yeah.  To manage that, I will need some help…

*uses One Privilege to generate a group of Kyle clones*

Kyle Clone 1:  Don’t worry!  Kyle’s here!

Kyle Clone 2:  And I’m here too, Doctor!

Kyle Clone 3:  I’ll get her ready for her nap!  Just let me know!

Kyle Clone 4:  That Doctor looks sleepy!  I’ll take him when he’s ready for rest…

Kyle Clone 5:  Is it her bath time yet?  call me when it is!  I’ll give her a bath…

Kyle Clone 6:  The Doctor needs a bath!  Oh! Is it not time yet?  Let me know when he’s ready…

*Kyle Clone 1 changes Muse’s diaper and Kyle Clone 3 gets her ready for her nap*

Me & My Muse – Day 1231: Sunday Shopping

To offer you a quick summary of today, I went to small church and played Bible Jeopardy, listened to Pastor Jeremy’s sermon during second service, went shopping, refilled my gas, and came home.

In about an hour, I will be going to my last Life Group of the year.  That is pretty much this day in a nutshell.

Today’s high is going to be 31 degrees and the silver lining is having the day off.

To those of you who are enjoying this Sunday, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  The spread is continuing.  It just started to affect Alask…

No it hasn’t.  The story arc is paused for today.  It will resume tomorrow.

Muse:  It has?  Phew!  Time to relax and rest up for tomorrow’s big scene!

Me & My Muse – Day 1230: Snowy SaturNESday

It it currently snowing right now.  It is the first snow that I have seen this month, and it’s a good sign of the snow that I’m hoping to see in December.

With my friend coming over today, I am going to cut this short.  I have some more shopping to do this week, and will want to get it done early.

Having that said, I will now bring this to a close…

Muse:  In here!  Quick!

*Muse takes me into Pink TARDIS*

Muse: The spread is continuing.  Half of Africa and Asia are now affected.

*Dark Muse appears in a cloud of smoke*

Dark Muse:  Look at all the cute little babies!  Don’t you just adore them?

Muse:  So you’re the cause of this, huh?

Dark Muse:  So I am, huh?  I just thought that this world would be a better place with more babies.  Don’t you agree?

The Doctor:  Try all babies.  The entire human race will all be babies if we don’t reverse this soon.

Dark Muse:  Reverse it?  Now where would the fun in that be?  Being evil is so much fun!

*red dots on radar begin to multiply*

Muse:  Goodness!  All of Africa and Asia are affected now!

Dark Muse:  And look at that pretty glowing void in the sky!  It’s getting very big now!

The Doctor:  Yes.  And pretty soon, the whole world will be affected.  Why make the whole world babies?

Dark Muse:  Why not?  Aren’t they cute?

I think she’s hiding something.  Maybe another plot to get my One Privilege?

Dark Muse:  Interesting theory.  We’ll see if you’re right.  Enjoy the babies!

*Dark Muse vanishes in a cloud of smoke*

Well, I’m leaving.  I hope that we can solve this soon, but my friend’s coming over.

The Doctor: We’ll think of something.  We always do!

Okay.  Good luck!

*leaves Pink TARDIS*

It’s now time to end this and get ready for my friend to come over.

Today’s high is going to be 38 degrees and the silver lining is my friend coming over today.

To those of you who like being with your friends on the weekend, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  What she’s doing might be a distraction.

The Doctor:  I think you’re right.  Keep a watch out on Kyle, okay?

Muse:  I will!

Me & My Muse – Day 1229: Freaky Friday

To review this day as a whole, I can say that it has gone quite smoothly.

Contrary to what my expectations were for dough today, I ended up making less batches than yesterday.  This made for a very easy morning shift, and a slower than average Friday.

With the weekend ahead of me, I am just going to relax.  I totally earned it…

Muse:  I wouldn’t relax just yet.  A serious epidemic has just hit earth.

What epidemic is that?

Muse:  Quick!  Into the TARDIS!  I’ll show you!

*follows Muse into the Pink TARDIS*

The Doctor:  We have a serious situation on our hands.

So I’ve been told.  What is this epidemic?

Muse:  We just found it.  Both of us.  It appeared on the radar.

*glances at radar, which displays a bunch of red dots on the eastern part of the map*

Those red dots…They’re all over Central London…

The Doctor:  Each dot is someone who’s infected.

What is this infection?

Muse:  Have a look at this.

*Muse turns on monitor, which displays a television news station*

BBC News Anchor (Bradley):  We are here in the heart of London, where a terrible epidemic is breaking out.  All over London, various victims are being transformed into babies.  Why is this happening?  Our sources indicate that the cause is directly linked to that odd glowing void in the sky.  Everyone.  Stay away from that void.  You will be infected.  There’s no telling how bad this can get.  You need to be c…WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!

BBC Studio Anchor (Linda):  Bradley?  Brad?  Are you there?  My goodness!  He got changed into an infant!  Everyone.   Stay calm.  To those who are just tuning in, we have a serious epidemic.  Thousands of people around London are being transformed into babies.  We think that it might be coming from that void, which could be brimming with extraterrestrial activity.  But why babies?  What mother could tend to them all?  This just in.  We are receiving reports of this epidemic reaching parts of Greater London…WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!

*Muse turns the monitor off*

Her too?  What Could be causing this?

The Doctor:  That’s the tricky thing.  We know that it’s coming from that void.  And that void is only getting larger and larger…

Muse:  That would explain why it would be starting to affect parts of Greater London…

But why is that void turning everyone into babies?  The only thing that I can think of is…Oh no.  It can’t be!

The Doctor:  Oh no, what?

I have experienced this pretty recently.  When my Muse was going through her baby transformation cycle, that Dark Muse entered her, and she was able to acquire my privileges.  First, the Master’s privileges and then the One Privilege.

The Doctor:  And that void then…It’s a different universe…

Exactly.  On a day that she was 24.25 months, she had the One Privilege, and she was reaching a point where she was losing control of her powers…

The Doctor:  Of course.  What kind of child could control that much power?

She kept growing and growing.  And when she tried to outgrow the universe, she exploded.  This showered the universe with power, and everything transformed.  The universe was remade in her image.

The Doctor:  And it made her into a goddess.  You’re not saying…

Yes.  That Muse and her universe is inside that void.  I thought I banished her but it doesn’t look like I did…

The Doctor:  Of course you didn’t banish her!  When you delete something, do you think it’s gone for good? No!  It gets moved somewhere else, where everything else gets deleted…

Muse:  What about you, Kyle?  Aren’t you worried about this affecting you?

Not at all.  If that’s the same Muse, then she has me identified as her “father”.  I am unaffected.

Muse:  *gasp*  The radar!  The dots are multiplying!

*dots begin to cover the United Kingdom, and begin spreading into Europe*

The Doctor:  That void is growing, and pretty soon our whole world will be inside it.

And we don’t want that.  Everyone will be transformed into a baby.

Muse:  Everyone?  What about the mother?

The Doctor:  Think about it!  If there’s a father, then there’s also a mother…

And she is Nurture.  Unfortunately, she is possessed by hundreds of Dark Baby Muses, so her mannerisms are a little juvenile.  Despite that, she still acts very motherly.

Muse:  Right before Thanksgiving?  Can’t this wait?

The Doctor:  Don’t worry about Thanksgiving.  I can freeze time and extract all of us and this planet from this timeline.  It has a temporary effect, so it would only last a few days.

Long enough to enjoy Thanksgiving weekend, right?

The Doctor:  Perhaps. And maybe even Cyber Monday.  Who knows?  I haven’t used it in a while!

Well, I guess I won’t be having a relaxing Friday after all.  Everyone.  I need to think about all this…

The Doctor:  Go ahead.  We will try to think of a plan…

Okay. Good luck.

Muse;  Thanks Kyle.  Try to enjoy your weekend, okay?

Okay.

*leaves Pink TARDIS*

Yeah.  She tells me that after I find out the world is being invaded by a baby-making epidemic.  I guess that power that great couldn’t be rid of. Only banished elsewhere.

Well, from what I see on the radar, only Europe is infected right now.  It’s only a matter of time before it reaches Africa and Asia…

How did that glowing void appear?  Can we stop this epidemic and return everyone to their normal ages?  I guess that the answers will be revealed soon…

Today’s high is going to be 68 degrees and the silver lining is it finally being the weekend.

To those of you who are glad that Friday’s here again, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  I’ll be back in a bit.  I have to use the bathroom.

The Doctor:  Go ahead.  I already went, so I’m fine.

*Muse enters bathroom, pulls down pants and sits down on toilet*

Muse:  (I hope that void doesn’t affect me.  I’ve been a baby already.  I don’t need to become one again.  And I’m already wearing my embarrassment insurance, with my panties disguising the slight bulk.  Please don’t let it happen again…)

My Writing Journey – Know When to Say No (11/17/2016)

Have you ever been in a dilemma?  There are three different activities that you can go to.  They are all on the same night and at the same time.  Which one do you pick?

In this case, you need to know when to say no.  What is the most important?  Choose that one over the other two.

The same thing can be applied to writing.  Write when you can, but don’t get burned out.  Find a time when it works the best for you.  If you can’t find the time anywhere, that might be a good day to take off.  Although that’s a difficult option, perhaps you need a day to refresh yourself.

Learning to say no in certain situations is a very important thing to learn as a leader.  You can’t say yes to everything.  This will slow you down.  Say no to the matters that make sense and yes to what’s important.  This will save you a lot of stress when you’re making important decisions.

Saying no can sometimes be beneficial when you’re looking for something better.  If you have an opportunity, you must refuse it if you are going after the better opportunity.

So try it sometimes.  Know when to say so and you’ll find yourself learning to say yes at all the right times.

What’s next week?  Only time will tell.

See you next week!

Your friend in writing,

Kyle

Me & My Muse – Day 1228: A Head Start…

Has anyone started their Christmas shopping yet?  I already have, at my favorite store: Amazon.com.

Today, I will do a little more shopping and go to a Toastmasters meeting. Thanksgiving is in one week and Friday is tomorrow. I look forward to the weekend and I look forward to the food.

With Friday in the horizon, keep your eyes peeled.  I’ll have a little more time on my hands tomorrow.  For today, I will be cutting my entry short, since I need to get ready for a Toastmasters meeting.

Today’s high is going to be 64 degrees and the silver lining is being able to buy more Christmas gifts.

To those of you who like shopping for Christmas gifts early, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  Early Christmas gifts, huh?  I’m just about done with mine!  It’s going to be an easy year this year…

Me & My Muse – Day 1227: A Different Wednesday

How so?

For one thing, there is no Ideation this week, since the one leading it has an event planned for this week.  That’s fine.  That will provide me with more time to work on my homework!

It’s also different since I’m keeping it short tonight.  I’m tired and I’ll work on a longer one tomorrow.  Updating my resume was something that I wanted to get done today.

Today’s high is going to be 58 degrees and the silver lining is having a little more time this Wednesday.

To those of you who are enjoying your Wednesday, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  A little beached?  So am I.  I think I’ll retire to bed early tonight…

Me & My Muse – Day 1226: Toastmasters District 62 Fall Conference Aftermath

This is it.  The recap that you have been waiting for.  Or is it?  Whether it meets or expectations to a T or falls just short of them,  here it is, in its entirety.  The Fall Conference aftermath from the Toastmasters District 62 Fall Conference at the H Hotel in Midland Michigan: November 11-13, 2016.

First of all, the theme.  Having already mentioned it in the past, I believe that it bears repeating.  The theme for the Midland’s Fall Conference was “Give Humor a Chance”.  And there was a lot of humor this past weekend.  How so?  Follow me, and I will show you the funny.  And try not to laugh too hard.  You might want to get some extra underwear just in case.  It was a weekend of laughs, chuckles, titters, speaking and networking.

First of all, the name of the theme was decided because it was along our conference chair’s expertise.  He has won the humorous speech contest a couple of years ago at the District Level, and he wanted to focus be on how we can improve humor in our own presentations.  With that, the theme “Give Humor a Chance” was born.

When will he get to the weekend already?  Here it is.  First of all, the journey.

My journey consisted of a very long 8.3 miles to the H Hotel.  I had to drive down Saginaw Road.  This was the first leg.  After I got to Herbert Henry Dow High School, I turned right on Main Street.  This was the second leg.  I drove through the sun dappled roads, past Orchard road, Currie Parkway and M-20.  I was then on the final leg.  I drove past the Courthouse and to my final destination: the H Hotel.  I turned on Ashman, driving downhill to the parking deck.  I then proceeded to park my car in a nearby space.

Checking in was quick and efficient.  I got my room key and took my luggage to an elevator.  I went down the hallway and found my room:  227.  Taking my “room badge”, I held it near the scanner.  The light turned green.  The door was unlocked.  I took my luggage and entered the room…

Once inside, I knew what to expect.  It was just like before.  The room was stylish and contemporary.  A charge station sat on the nightstand, complete with an HDMI slot, a USB slot, composite cable jacks, an iPad slot two three-pronged wall outlets and a few other slots and jacks.  For those who love gadgets, you could charge them all here.  An analog alarm clock radio sat on top, with the phone to the right.

The bathroom was separated by a stained glass sliding door encased in wooden paneling.  Inside the bathroom was an open shower, with glass and wall tiles.  The shower fixtures were all Kohler.  The sink was spacious.  A large rectangle with soap and mouthwash.

Right outside the bathroom was a system of drawers and cabinets.  One of the smaller cabinets opened a mini fridge.  Perched above the drawers was a coffee station.  A Keurig coffee brewer sat there, with a rather mediocre assortment of coffee and tea K-packs.  I mean, come on!  The selection was a lot better in 2014 and here’s the proof.

Here’s the Keurig Station in 2014, with the wonderful selection of K-cups and Tea K-cups.

keurig-station-2016

And this the same Keurig Station, two years later in 2016.  Note that there’s much fewer K-cups then what they had in the past.  From a fine selection of nine to a pathetic selection of four.  Two regular and two decaf.  REALLY H Hotel?!  You really went cheap on us.  So much for the selection!  But I digress…The REAL coffee mugs were still there, but I was disenchanted with the subpar selection of coffee flavors.

I checked out the surprises from two years ago.  I pressed a switch on the wall, which moved three different curtains up and down.  The mirror portrait was an HDTV, which sat directly across from our double beds.

On the side with the HDTV sat a small table with two lounge chairs on either side.  A lamp with a floor switch sat to the right of the lounge chairs.  This was the perfect place to settle down.

But with a conference to begin, we didn’t do that.  I left the room with the items I needed.

When I got to registration, I noticed a few familiar faces at the registration desk.  Katherine, the Facility Chair was there.  After registering, I entered Indigo I & II, the conference space for the conference.  I was tasked with finding the tech person to deliver the lavalier microphone to our room.

A little later, he came and delivered the lavalier microphone.  I put it on and tested it, to make sure that it worked. I then exited and helped with registration name tags.

When dinner was set out,  I had some lasagna, some fruit, and some dessert.

The evening began with DTM and Accredited Speaker, Conor Cunneen, giving his first keynote titled “Adden Humor Two You’re Presentashun!”.  He outlined some tips on how to make people L.A.U.G.H.  This was an acronym that incorporated listening, anecdotes, making people “uncomfortable“, googling, and having a hero not.  When this was over, we have improv and skits from every table of attendees.

After that, the evening was over.  I went up to my room and went to bed.

The next morning was breakfast.  The Veterans tribute was done yesterday, so there wasn’t anything done this morning.  The tribute involved a video clip of Lady Gaga singing the National Anthem.  The Vets then had pins placed on them.

Conor Cunneen then gave his second keynote, titled “What Mark Twain Learned Me ’bout Public Speakin’”.  In this keynote, he shared his M.A.R.K. T.W.A.I.N. acronym, and talked about Mark’s life and history as a presenter and a writer.

I then went to a break out session.  I went to Steve Carlson’s session, titled “How to Safely Infuse Humor Into Your Speech (and NOT Have It Blow Up!)”.  In the session,  Steve just talked about earthworms.  Yup.  There was so much that I learned about earthworms, and how good they were as a food.  Actually, that was a mislead, which is what he taught in his presentation.  I learned about how to infuse humor and different joke, and the tips and tricks that he used to pull this off.  When he finished, I was disappointed.  Come on Steve!  Go back to talking about the earthworms!

After that breakout session was a presentation from Vera Johnson, our Region VI International Director.  She talked about 9/11, and how she got over 100 people out of the World Trade Center.  She then shared her journey through Toastmasters.  Overall, it was very informative.  She also incorporated Conor’s L.A.U.G.H. acronym into her speech, so that was a plus.

Lunch followed, with the Hall of Fame Award ceremony.  Having earned five awards last year, I got a Triple Crown Award.  I also earned a Distinguished Area Award for getting my Area to Distinguished last year when I was an Area Director.  And last but not least, I earned the 2015/2016 Area Leadership Award, for demonstrating excellent leadership and teamwork.  This was achieved through service to my clubs by providing training, encouragement, and guidance.  Overall, that luncheon was quite exciting.

After the awards, Conor Cunneen gave his last keynote, titled “Toastmaster Success through the Gift of GAB (Goals, Attitude, Behavior)”  Conor shared his personal story with being pulled over by a cop when he talked about attitude.  All in all, it was a fun and informative presentation.

The Humorous and Table Topics Speech Contest followed.  Overall, there were some really good speakers, including one that blew everyone away.  This was Roni Thebo-Park, member of an S Division club, Zoetis Toastmasters.  She got first place with a speech where she talks about the “birds and the bees” with her children.  The speech involved her missing not knowing about training bras and Frenchkissing as a kid.  She was determined to not have this same thing happen to her children.  With all of her well-timed jokes and humor, she won.

The Table Topics Contest followed.  All in all, the topics were pretty good.  They all answered the question “What qualities do you like in others and why?”  Robert Stuberg of the Muskegon Toastmasters Club won.

After that contest was the Business Meeting.  Different items were discussed, with me issuing a couple motions. All in all, the meeting was okay.

After that, dinner followed, with the DTM ceremony following.  From the luncheon earlier, I was not done.  Of the seven new DTM’s that would receive their DTM medallion, I was one of them.

Helen Dotson led the ceremony, recounting her fond memories of joining Toastmasters and her exciting journey to DTM.  When she finished her story, she invited all of the past DTM’s to come up and form a line, with Aaron and Karen leading it.  Aaron would place the medallion on each new recipient, while Helen read their bio.  When it was my turn, I was so happy.  I shook hands with each man in line and I hugged each woman.  This was a proud accomplishment for me and I cherished each minute of it.

After dinner was the head shaving ceremony.  Throughout the conference, Jim of Midland Toastmasters and David of Tuesday Talkers had a contest to see who could sign up the most members for the conference.  The loser had their head shaved by the winner.  Tuesday Talkers had 8 members signed up.  Midland Toastmasters had 18 members signed up.  With that, David’s head was shaved by Jim.

But that wasn’t all.  Jim also made another bet.  If there was more than 100 members at the conference, he would have his head shaved, too.  Lorrie reported the results.  117 members registered, so Jim’s head was shaved by David.

Furthermore, Midland Toastmasters had the most members in the District that signed up for the Platinum conference package, so Midland Toastmasters won $100 for their club.  This was happy to hear, since we can use that money to get a new banner stand.

When this was over, Vera Johnson spoke about matters that were addressed at the business meeting.  She felt that this was a better use of her time than talking about her original speech.  The matters included the new Toastmasters Pathways Program, the conference moving to one a year starting in the spring, and Toastmasters moving their World Headquarters to Denver.

The night continued with a Magician/Comedian/Escape Artist.  His name was Robert Zarinf, and he was quite impressive.

After this was the District Director’s Reception in room 333.  It was “Nacho Average District Director’s Reception”.  There was a nacho bar with tortilla chips, cheese wiz, black olives, jalapenos, sour cream, and salsa.  There was also a veggie tray with BBQ hummus, and some chocolate desserts.  There were pretzels, marshmallows, chocolate chips, Dove chocolate baking rounds, and sugar free caramels.  The reception got so crowded that it was hard to hear anyone’s conversation.  I made my rounds and talked to a few people, addressing the ultimatum of having the elected positions filled by December 15th.

After that, I called it a night.

The next morning, I had breakfast and listened to Crystal Mosher’s speech “Come! Learn the Knack of Networking!”.  It was quite informative and I learned a lot from it.

Following that was my last breakout session.  I heard  Jerry Conrad’s ”Make a Personal Connection With Your Audience.  It’s All About Them”.  I loved this session, as it was relevant to everyone.

I then stayed for the conference glows and grows, and thanks yous.

I then went home and relaxed.

If you didn’t have time to read all that, let me give you the short version.  I learned a whole lot this weekend, as did everyone else who was present.

With that, I will now end….

Muse:  That was beautiful.  Not like your fake entry from a few days ago.

Fake?  That was real!  So I scheduled it in advance.  How else was I supposed to leave something like that if I was gone yesterday?

Muse:  The hotel did have a computer area.  You could’ve left it then.

Well, I’m finishing, okay?  I believe that I said everything that I needed to. Except for…oh yeah!

Muse:  What?

One of the important things that I learned from Conor Cuneen:  What do I want my attitude to be?

Muse:  That’s pretty good.  It really gets to the point.

It does.  Whenever you’re angry, think about that question.  It really helps.

Muse:  I learned a lot from my conference too, but I’m tired.  I didn’t sleep well last night so I’m going to take a nap.

Okay.  I’ll let you do that…

Today’s high is going to be 58 degrees and the silver lining is getting this recap done.

To all of you who have ever had a wonderful learning experience, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  That conference recap was golden.  I loved what I learned at my conference too, but man, am I tired…

Me & My Muse – Day 1225: NESday Aftermath…

Well, my friend came and went.

There will be no conference update either, and I will be cutting this entry short, since I am tired.

Today’s high is going to be 57 degrees and the silver lining is my friend coming over today.

To those of you who like hanging out with friends, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  I’m glad that you enjoyed your friend visit.  I look forward to the conference update!

Me & My Muse – Day 1224: The Fall Conference Recap…

Will take place at a later date.  Due to events that take priority over updating this and me being tired from this weekend’s conference, the recap will be postponed.  I will be back tomorrow.

Today’s high is going to be 58 degrees and the silver lining is being home from the conference.

To those of you who like attending weekend conferences, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  That conference was fun, but I am winded.  Time for a nap!
