Think & Write #54

Human Time Machine

I have heard people say this before.  “What if you could turn back time?”

For me, I can do this without even thinking.  Whenever I hear this in a conversation, I tell them that perhaps it’s something that they would not want to do.

I have time traveled several times.  When I’m awake, I can control where I go.  When I’m asleep, where I go is beyond my control.  Anytime and place.  It doesn’t matter.  I can go there.

When I have fallen asleep, I once woke up in the middle of a war.  I had to avoid a whole army of Roman soldiers.  While I can exist in various time periods, nothing I do can change the course of history.  With that, I guess you can say that I observe time.

I have seen the Renaissance.  I have seen the birth of Christ, and the death of Caesar.  I have seen the Bubonic Plague, and had to quickly leave that time period so that I wouldn’t get it myself.  I have seen the Industrial Revolution, both in Europe and in America.

People have asked me why I possess this unusual gift.  The answer that I give them is that I don’t know.  All I know is that I was born at the turn of the 20th century, in the house of a watchmaker.  He made watches and clocks.  He set some of them to go forward and some of them to go backward.  In being born there, I had no idea how that would influence anything, or even begin to explain how I got my gift…..
