Me & My Muse – Day 115: Trick or Treat?!

It’s here once again.  The night of candy.  The night of costumes.  And depending on your tradition, this night will have a totally different meaning to each one of us.

To some, it is the night to play tricks on other people.  To go toilet paper someone’s house.  To spread silly string all over someone’s yard or driveway.  Whatever it is, it is surely their night to play pranks.

To the rest (and I think this accounts for most of us), it is the night to dress up and be whoever we want, handing out candy to the Trick or Treaters.  Or, if you have a younger one, it is the night to take them door to door, collecting the candy from every house that offers it.  And of course, you know the secret.  You get most of their candy, considering it’s not good for them and they can’t eat it all.  Or, you share it with them.  It really depends on your style.

When I think of this night, I think of the nights of so many years past when I used to go trick or treating.  Each year was a different stage.  One year, I was a Ninja Turtle.  One year that I can especially remember is when I was Mario.  During this year, I wore a rubber Mario mask and it was so hot with it on.  I took it off several times when I was in the car between neighborhoods.

In the more recent years, I have been Mario.  In one of the years that I was Mario, I grew out a mustache so that it would look authentic.  While I didn’t hand out candy that year, I did go to a Halloween party, which was quite fun.

What will I be this year?  Tonight, I will be going as a dead Survivor cast-mate.  I will be wearing white makeup on my face to indicate that I am “dead”.  For those of you who wondered how I “died”, it was from drowning during an immunity challenge.  The rope was caught on my leg and I couldn’t get it undone in time.  By the time everyone came over, it was too late.  When this happened, they had to cancel that season….This is the costume that I’ll wear to work….

On my way home, I’ll dress up as Mario….

Muse:  Getting lazy, aren’t we?

What do you mean?

Muse:  What I mean is that you have used that introduction before.

So?  I thought that it was so good that I decided to use it again.

Muse:  Check out my costume!  Don’t I look “heavenly”?

Yes.  You look like an angel.

Muse:  That’s what I was going for.  White robe, wings, halo.  It all took me a while to get it perfect.

And I see that you have the sandals, too….

Muse:  Of course.  I don’t miss a single detail.

What’s your favorite candy?  I can list off my top five:  Twix, Milky Way, M&M’s, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Whoppers.

Muse:  Whoppers?  Those malted milk balls?  My number one is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, hands down.

What about your other four?

Muse:  Spots five through two include the following:  York Peppermint Patty, Mounds, Butterfinger and Kit Kat.  Kit Kat was almost number one but I like Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups a little more.

So are you going to chide me about reading and writing today?

Muse:  Not today, but I will tomorrow.  Time for some candy!  Oh, and nice costume!

My pajamas are not my costume!  You’ll see it when I’m showered.

Muse:  Fair enough.  I’ll let you get ready.  Reese’s and Kit Kats, here I come!

Getting back to what I was saying, I’ll be going as Mario on the way home.  I’ll be handing out candy as Mario once again.  The kids always seem to love it so I dress up as him every year.

Today’s high is going to be 63 degrees with plenty of rain, so you better bring umbrellas if you’re taking your little ones Trick or Treating….The silver lining will be dressing up for work and handing out candy as Mario later.

To all of you who love candy, dressing up, and all things Halloween, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  Time for some music to set the mood….
