Me & My Muse – Day 540: Closing Up the Year

For starters, I just got back from getting my service checkup at Pennzoil and a car wash.  What remains is reflecting on 2014 at a glance.

In more than an hour, I will be working a closing shift at Little Caesars.  It will be my very last shift of 2014.  I will return to work an opening shift on January 1, 2015.

That’s the gist of it.  Time to get ready for work and reflect on 2014.

Today’s high is going to be 22 degrees and the silver lining is being able to reflect on 2014 and everything that has happened this year.

To those of you who are reflecting on 2014, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  2014 was a good year.  And it’s going to end good with me being a fairy now.  Tee hee!

Me & My Muse – Day 539: The List Continues…

And so do these short posts.   I have a car to take to Pennzoil.  After that, I want to get it washed.  I then have a bill to pay, among other things.

And then, a four hour shift and a final visit to my grandparents to say goodbye to my cousins.  That’s about the gist of it.

Today’s high is going to be 28 degrees and the silver lining is seeing my cousins once more.

To those of you who like seeing your cousins or distant relatives, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  My company is still over.  And you’re still up?  I just got up to get a glass of milk.  Tee hee…

Me & My Muse – Day 538: End of Year Checklist

There are a few things that I want to get done before the end of 2014.  One of them is writing my one-year bible reading plan for next year on the calendar.  Others include paying the credit card bill and finding all the highlights for 2014.

Besides that, I now need to get ready.  Another 3 to 7 shift at work awaits.

Today’s high is going to be 34 degrees and the silver lining is getting some end of year things done.

To those of you who still have to finish up things for 2014, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  End of year checklist?  I have one too!  Fortunately, mine is pretty short.  Tee hee!

Me & My Muse – Day 537: Back to Work…

It’s actually day two to be exact.

Since I’m a little tired and I work a little later, I’m going to cut this short.

Last night, I saw a movie with my cousins.  It was pretty fun but ended pretty late.

After that, I played a little bit of my new game: LittleBigPlanet 3.

Tonight, I will go shopping with my brother after work.

Today’s high is going to be 46 degrees and the silver lining is being able to play my new game.

To those of you who are enjoying your Christmas presents, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  I’m enjoying my new gifts very much.  Time to read another new book.  Tee hee!

Me & My Muse – Day 536: Christmas Aftermath

With Christmas being over, I will now share with you the Christmas that I experienced.

When I woke up, my brother was the only other person up.  I did my devotional and waited for everyone else to get up.

Eventually, my parents woke up.  After having Crockpot Breakfast Casserole for breakfast, we started opening the gifts.  This is what it looked like before.

Muse:  Wow!  That’s a lot of gifts!

I know.  This is what it looked like after we opened them.

Muse:  That reminds me of the gifts that I opened couple days ago.  The tree looked just like that when we were done.

It always does.  But it was fun while it lasted.  After that, I took inventory of my gifts.  For those of you who are wondering, this is what I got for Christmas.

Muse:  That’s a lot of gifts!  For me, I got mostly books this year.  I see that you didn’t get any…

I know.  I’m guessing that you had a good Christmas.

Muse:  I did.  All the Intangibles came over to my house and we celebrated Christmas there.  Besides books, I got some jewelry, some lipstick and a couple of electronics.

That’s a lot of good gifts.  As for the gifts above, I got more when I went to my grandparents.  Moving on with the recap, I got ready and I went over to my grandparents.  Me, my brother, my sister and my cousins all opened our stockings, had dinner, had dessert, did the white elephant gift exchange and came home.  The dinner was prime rib, brussel sprouts, rolls, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, zucchini casserole, black and green olives and orange fluff.  The desserts consisted of a pumpkin roll, a chocolate roll, some Christmas cookies, and some peppermint bark.  I just took a chocolate roll and a pumpkin roll and some peppermint bark.

Muse:  That’s quite a spread!  The food that we had was a little different, since not everyone there liked Tangible food.

Well, that’s the gist of it.  Having shared that with you, I now need to get ready.

Muse:  I need to ready myself.  See you later!

I really need to get going.  Today’s high is going to be 42 degrees and the silver lining is getting paid today.

To those of you who are enjoying your new gifts, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  I got a lot of gifts this year!  And with all those new books, I’m going to have a lot of reading to do.  Tee hee…

Me & My Muse – Day 535: Merry Christmas!

Once again, it’s the most wonderful time of the year.  This is, without a doubt, my most favorite holiday.  Christmas morning.  Now it may be early, but I’m up and ready to open my presents.  My parents may still be sleeping, but I’m excited.  If it’s any part of me that has never grown up, it’s the part of me that acts four on Christmas morning.

Muse:  For me, that just happened.  I am so excited!  Tee hee!

But for Christmas, how excited are you?

Muse:  I’m very excited.  Tee hee!  Part of me wants to squeal with excitement, but I will spare you that since I don’t want to wake up your parents.  I’ll do it quietly instead.  *whispering*  Yaaaay!!!!

I can see that one part of you hasn’t grown up either.

Muse:  Who EVER grows up on Christmas morning?  When I wake up on this day, I feel like I’m five again.  Adulthood can wait for one day, can’t it?

It can.  And I see that you’re cozy with your footie pajamas…..

Muse:  I am, and I’m not taking them off.  They feel comfortable and they keep me warm.  You’ve worn them before so you should know, right?

Right.  Getting back to what you said.  Adulthood can wait on Christmas.  Whatever memories I have had when I was younger, they all return on this day.  Now this may differ for some people.  But for most, they can feel some aspect of their childhood calling back….

Muse:  Yes.  And some people fight it and repress it.  They try to hide it, but this is unhealthy.  Everyone.  If you feel excited on this day, don’t hesitate to let it out.  Listen to your memories and set them free.  Remember your youth, and how fun Christmas was for you.  Your memories only want to remind you of this.  Listen to them and recapture the moment.  Take a step back in time.  Christmas only comes once a year!  Tee hee!

I totally agree.  But remember.  There is another side of Christmas.  A side that some people don’t pay attention to.  Christmas is not about presents and Santa Claus.  It’s about the birth of Jesus Christ.

Muse:  Yes.  I also look at the Advent Season when I celebrate this time of year.  We need to know why we give these gifts.

And we do.  What can we give to God what he doesn’t already have?  All we can give to him is ourselves.  And while we can’t give anything else to him, we give gifts to others to show our love and appreciation for them.

Muse:  I also think of the Charlie Brown Christmas Special.  It’s the only special where we hear the true meaning of Christmas.

Yes.  Linus quotes the Christmas story found in Luke.  Matthew refers to the Wise Men delivering gifts to the baby Jesus.

Muse:  What were these gifts for, anyway?  I understand the symbolic meaning behind them.  I believe they were used to pay for the trip to Egypt.

It probably was, for they had to flee from Herod, since he issued orders to kill every firstborn male baby.  Jesus is the reason for the season.  He was born to be the perfect sacrifice.  To bear the sins of humanity so that we may live.

Muse:  It must have been a heavy burden to bear all that.

It was.  Today is indeed a joyful day.

Muse:  Should we make him a birthday cake?  I don’t know what frosting he would like!

I think he would be happy with any frosting.

Anyway, I want to wish everyone who is reading this Merry Christmas.  Whether you celebrate one side, both, or don’t celebrate Christmas at all, understand that this is a very special day.  Most importantly because Jesus was born on this day, both for you and for me.  And from this day, many traditions have developed.  The most popular one being the exchange of gifts.

The high today is going to be 36 degrees and the silver lining is celebrating the birth of Christ and the opening of presents.  My parents are still not up.  But when they are, it’s present opening time!

To all of you who celebrate Christmas, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  Merry Christmas, Kyle!  My company just arrived so I’ll see you later!  Tee hee…

Me & My Muse – Day 534: Twas the Day Before Christmas…

…and all through the house

Kyle will toil away so his work he can douse

His Santa hat was hung on the bed leg with care

So he can go to work and then get out of there

And after that morning a day of vacation

Just one single day of rest and relaxation

The day will be merry, the night will be bright

With plenty of snacks on this cold winter night

Then out of the oven before they get black

I will feast on few a Christmas snack

Then after that meal, I’ll don my PJ’s quick

So we can see a good Christmas flick

Then after that, it is on to tradition

My brother and me must carry out our mission

The door will be closed, the room fillled with heat

When we both watch The Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

Following that, it’s off to bed

Visions of CDs and games will dance in our heads

Looking at this, that’s all I have to say

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good day

Muse:  Christmas is tomorrow!  Eee!  I’m so excited!

I know!  Today is the day I can finally take a breather.  Well, not quite.  After my 10 to 2 shift, I’ll be able to do that…

Muse:  All my things are done too.  It’s only a matter of time….I’m so excited!  Tee hee!

Tickish again?

Muse:  Well, you know my position!  I’m a fairy!  I just couldn’t hold it in!  Tee hee!

That’s right.  Despite that fairy being gone, you still have her good memories…

Muse:   And I got rid of her bad ones.  And I talked to the Dark Muse a little earlier.  She won’t bother me this year.  If she does, I told her that I would turn her into a gnat!

That’s good to hear.  Today is going to be exciting.  After the morning shift, it will be a day to relax before the excitement tomorrow….

Muse:  I’m going to shower.  Be back in a bit!

Okay.  I need to shower myself.

Today’s high is going to be 38 degrees and the silver lining is watching the movie with my brother later tonight.  This day is going to be quite fun.  I work a 10 to 2 Christmas Eve shift at Little Caesars.  For today and tomorrow, I’ll be in vacation mode, once I get done with today’s shift.  It will be a day of snacking, relaxing and visiting with the family.

To all of you who love having a couple days off, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  Tee hee!  I can’t wait until tomorrow!  I wish I could open my presents early!  Eee!  I’m so excited!  Tee hee…

Me & My Muse – Day 533: All Aboard!

If Tom Hanks was a train conductor, this is what he would be shouting outside your house on Christmas Eve.

Now what would Tom Hanks be doing here?  Your train has arrived.  You stopped believing in Santa Claus so you are now greeted by a magical train.  A train bound for the North Pole.  Make your decision quick.  The train conductor is very strict about being on time and he is not going to wait for you another minute.

If your decision was yes, then welcome aboard.  You are on The Polar Express.  A special service offered to help kids who have any lingering doubts about the man in red.  The ride is free, and every kid will meet Santa before he takes off to deliver his gifts around the world.

Tonight, I will be seeing this movie.  If I have said it before, I will say it again.  This movie gets better and better every time you see it.  It’s magical and nostalgic.  Can you remember your childhood memories about Christmas?  This movie will bring them all back, because you, the viewer, are riding that train with them.

Muse:  So you’re seeing the Polar Express?  I LOVE that movie!  Tee hee!  Rather than seeing it alone, I think I’ll join you.

Please do.  Just remember, miss.  The conductor does not like to wait.  We want to start the movie ON TIME and end ON TIME!  We have a tight schedule to keep tonight….

Muse:  Okay, Tom Hanks.

Besides that, I only have a 10-2 Christmas Eve shift to work at Little Caesars.  And then, the celebration begins.

The high today is going to be 42 degrees and the silver lining will be watching The Polar Express tonight.

To those of you who love reliving your childhood memories through Christmas Movies, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  To gear up for the movie tonight, I’m brewing up a a large pot of HOT CHOCOLATE!  Hot hot!  Oh, we got it!  I love that movie.  Tee hee!

Me & My Muse – Day 532: The True Meaning of Christmas

Since I’m running out of time, I’ll cut to the chase.

I work from 2 to 7 and then I’m getting a haircut.  After that, I will watch The Nativity Story with my brother.

Muse:  That is a good movie.  I plan on watching it myself….

I will now get ready.

Today’s high is going to be 37 degrees and the silver lining is watching The Nativity Story with Ryan.

To those of you who look forward to Christmas, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  Oh yeah!  There’s one more gift that I forgot to wrap!  Better finish wrapping it now.  Tee hee….

Movie Review: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

http://www.ramascreen.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/The-Hobbit-The-Battle-Of-The-Five-Armies1-e1406558769186.jpg

We are now approaching the end of the road.  And like all roads, it will either lead us to a dead end or a wonderfully vibrant end full of life.  An end that is known better to the rest of us as a “happy ending”.

With Smaug ravaging an entire town, jealously defending his mountain containing his golden treasure, Bilbo Baggins watched the desolation from atop the Lonely Mountain.  Watching Smaug burn the poor and defenseless town to a crisp.  Who among the citizens could best such a terrible beast? One brave man stepped forward while the other dwarves were being led out on boat by a she-elf.  At this point, Bilbo has gone very far in his journey.  There was no way that he could turn back, until he finished his errand.  There was a battle to fight. And after this battle, his journey would end.  Clad with his treasure and memories that would last a lifetime, he would then make his journey home.  To the end.  To his cozy Hobbit hole where this story began.

Getting back to the battle, a brave man slayed Smaug.  He is Bard, the one that brought the sly Smaug to his glorious end.  With Smaug dead, there was no one to defend the treasure back at the mountain.  At Erebor.  The ancient Dwarven Land of old.  With the news traveling fast, everyone wanted a piece of that gold.  The citizens of Laketown wanted it to rebuild their settlement.  Thorin (Richard Armitage), going back on his promise, is determined to defend the gold that is rightfully his.  The elves assemble to recover a lost relic located in the Lonely Mountain of Erebor.  The orcs hear about Smaug’s demise and like all the other parties want the gold to rebuild their kingdom.

With everyone after this gold, the armies begin to assemble, and a great battle is fought for it. This is the premise of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, the long awaited third part in the trilogy released by Warner Bros. Pictures and MGM Studios.

As we already know, Tolkien is the master behind this masterpiece, but Peter Jackson is the director that is bringing his vision to life.   But how does he deal with The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies?  Is the movie a victorious masterpiece or a slaughtered corpse doomed to rot and decay without proper burial?  Let’s find out.

The movie begins with Laketown being under siege, with Smaug burning every building in sight. Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) and the dwarves get a front row seat to seeing all this happen.  There is widespread panic, while Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly) and the other dwarves escape in a boat.

After that, Bard (Luke Evans) breaks out of his prison cell and kills Smaug with a black arrow retrieved from his son Bain (John Bell).  With that, the Laketown survivors appoint Bard as their new leader.  As Bard’s first action, he leads the people of Laketown to the ruins of Dale for refuge.

After this, the dwarves all reunite at the Lonely Mountain.  The ones that escaped Laketown join with the ones that were with Bilbo.  During the reunion, Tauriel decides to investigate Mount Gundabad with Legolas (Orlando Bloom).

With Smaug fallen, the Battle of the Mountain begins.  The victor gets all the gold that is in the mountain.  And with Thorin back at Erebor, he is not about to give up the gold so easily.  Inflicted by Smaug’s “dragon sickness”, Thorin goes mad and begins a mad pursuit for the Arkenstone.  Little does he know that Bilbo has it.  Will Bilbo risk his life and confess to Thorin the truth?  Will the “dragon sickness” overtake Thorin, son of Thrain?  Which army will win the mountain and the gold inside it?  Will it be the Orcs?  And what about Gandalf (Sir Ian McKellen) and Radagast (Sylvester McCoy)?  Do they ever escape Dol Goldur?  Watch the movie and find out.

The length of the movie was a little shorter than the last one, and I thought that the plot progressed pretty smoothly.  With almost two and a half hours to work with, that was plenty of time to have the Battle of the Mountain and Bilbo’s return to the Shire.  The music was pretty good, although there wasn’t really anything noteworthy like the first movie (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey).  The ending was good, and it ties really well to The Lord of the Rings.

Getting to the characters, they were all portrayed faithfully as they were in the book.  There’s Bilbo, Gandalf and the dwarves from the last movie.  Thorin was the star of this one and is what made the movie for me.  Tauriel makes a return, which I will discuss a little bit later.  Legolas was once again oddly present.  Dain (Billy Connolly)  makes an odd new appearance in the movie. Odd inclusions aside, I thought that all the other characters were portrayed well.

The movie had a great number of nitpicks.  So many that I could write a book on them.  The first one is the one that I hated the most.  It was the inclusion of Tauriel in the movie.  Nowhere in The Hobbit OR Lord of the Rings universe is there a She-Elf named Tauriel!  Alongside Tauriel was Legolas, who had no place in the movie at all.  Furthermore, he made the plot useless.  He was not even in The Hobbit so he shouldn’t be in the movie.  To expand the plot from the last movie, Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) helps Gandalf escape and gets possessed by Sauron.  Being tempted by him, she resists and casts him away to Mordor.  This does not happen in the book at all!  Kili never confesses his love to Tauriel with a special stone because there is no Tauriel!  Azog existing is a contradiction in itself.  He was in the Battle of Azannulbizar, which was 150 years before the events of The Hobbit! He was killed by Dain in that battle.  And for some reason, they decided to include him in the movie too!  Azog is already dead so he has no place in The Hobbit at all!   Then they has the audacity to make this big final battle scene with Azog!  Thorin kills Azog but is mortally wounded.  He does die in the book but not from Azog!  I could go on and on about this, but to be honest, this is all that I can stand.  These changes were made to make the movie more appealing to casual audiences, and I thought that it was unnecessary.  Why did they have that final battle with Azog?  This was an addition that I hated the most.  Even more than Gandalf going to Dol Goldur from the last movie.  Even more than Boromir taking Frodo and Sam to Osgiliath in the Two Towers.  This subplot was totally made up and only served to fill in the two and a half hours of time that Jackson had to work with.  If any of these nitpicks were not there and the adaptation was closer to the book,  the movie would’ve been way better.

How did The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies do? Looking at the box office results,  it’s doing okay.  The expectation was for it to gross $70 million during the opening weekend and it did just that.  In one weekend, it grossed $56.2 million during its opening weekend.  Its five-day opening was $90.6 million, placing it behind The Desolation of Smaug’s $100.2 million five-day opening.  Even with a modest opening, it is still the sixth highest grossing movie of the Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit series.  Fellowship of the Ring grossed $47.2 million on its opening weekend.  The Two Towers grossed $62 million and Return of the King grossed $72.6 million.  Last year, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug grossed $73.6 million during its opening weekend. Two years ago,  The Hobbit:  An Unexpected Journey grossed  $84.6 million during its opening weekend.  The current domestic gross of this year’s movie is $90.6 million.  In adding the foreign gross of $265 million,  the worldwide gross stands at $355.6 million.  That’s $100 million more than the $258.3 million that The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug grossed last year at this time.  With a production budget of $250 million, it easily made it back.  With all the nitpicks aside (and there were many this time), I really enjoyed the movie. I loved the visuals and I loved the battle scenes near Erebor and Bilbo’s trip home.  Jackson has done it again.  Although it is a masterpiece, he needs to stay true to the book more.  The unnecessary additions of out-of-place characters made the plot a little confusing for me.  With the differences aside,  the success continues.  The formula was implemented again.  The finale could have been better had he stayed true to the book.  As with every story that arrives at the end of the road, this story accomplished this, and has tied the story to The Lord of the Rings smoothly.  For this prologue to be better, I advise that Jackson abstains from making tweaks that are too out of place (like he did last time), as this alienates the fans of Tolkien’s masterpiece prologue.  Nobody should ruin a masterpiece.  Jackson really should’ve avoided doing this to part three of this story.  I give The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies a 4 out of 5.

Me & My Muse – Day 531: I’m All About That List…

Santa’s list.  No trouble!  Just kidding.  Like last year, I am working on a new list.  The list that I am making is a list of all the things that I need to do before Christmas.  It is a short list, and I plan on getting mostly everything done on it within the next few days..

The Winter Solstice is also today, so if you think our days are too short, don’t worry.  Today will be the shortest day of the year.  After that, our days will slowly and gradually get longer and longer.

Getting back to the list, one of those items will get done on Tuesday..  My bedding needs to get washed, so I’ll wash it then.  That will be another item that I will be able to check off once my bedding and comforter is washed and dried.

That is an example of one of the items on my list.  As for the others, I will leave that up to your imagination to figure them out.

Muse:  You don’t have a list.

That is where you are wrong.  The list that I have is a mental list.  It saves paper and I can throw it away when I am done.

Muse:  Fair enough.  With you being a District Secretary now, you surely have a couple of Toastmasters things on that list, right?

I do, and the items on my list are ordered by priority.  I will get to those items as the others are completed.

Muse:  My Intangible Toastmasters District has grown a lot from last year..  There are 60 Districts from the original 10 that we had last year…

Sounds good.  Another item on that list is more recreational, and it will be done later on.

Muse:  Christmas footage, right?  I just got through my 28th Christmas.  I don’t have too many more to go!  Tee hee!

Well, it’s time to complete our lists!

Muse:  I’m way ahead of you on that.  Good luck on yours.  Bye!

I have to get ready.  I am going to church.   After that I work a 2 to 7 at Little Caesars.  At 8:00, I will be talking to the Lieutenant Governor of Marketing for my Toastmasters District.  He will walk me through how to update the membership list.

Today’s high is going to be 34 degrees and the silver lining will be getting more items on my list accomplished.

To everyone who loves to work on their to-do list, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  I don’t have much more to do on my list!  Time to go and make some cookies! Tee hee!

Me & My Muse – Day 530: Trip Down Memory Lane – Part II!

I would call this the finale of watching my Christmas memories.  The only year I have to watch now is last year’s, which is 2013.  Besides that, I have some District Business to tend to and a 3 to 8 shift at work today.

To sum up last night, it was fun.  We played my friend’s new game: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, watched Doctor Who and ate some Basil Thai.  Overall it was pretty fun.

I will now watch 2013.  Time to wrap this up!

Today’s high is going to be 31 degrees and the silver lining is being able to reflect on the Christmases of yesterday.

To those of you who love reflecting on Christmas memories, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  I’m almost done!  I only have five more years of footage to get through.  After that, it’s Christmas movie time.  Tee hee!

Me & My Muse – Day 529: Trip Down Memory Lane: Christmas Edition!

With my Christmas shopping done and only two gifts left to wrap, there’s only one thing left to do.  Watch home videos of all the Christmases of yesterday.

So far, I have watched the Christmas of 88, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.  What remains are the Christmases of 2008-2013.

Muse:  What about the other Christmases since you were born?

My parents didn’t own a video camera until 1994.  Before then, they had to rent one for temporary use.  This explains the gap between 88 and 93.

Muse:  Well, I have every Christmas from 4 months old to last year!  Having watched them last year, I’ll watch them again!  Tee hee!

Well, unfortunately, the only one that I have is from when I was four.

Muse:  Well, I was four months, and I was cute!  I cried after I opened my first gift.  I couldn’t do it myself.  I needed help But after they opened it, making my hand tear off the wrapping paper, I cried.

You did?

Muse:  Well yeah!  The gift was scary!  It was just a stuffed Santa but for some reason it scared me!  But I looked so cute.  I’m going to watch it now!  Tee hee!

Sounds like a good idea.  Time to watch Christmas 0f 2008…

Today’s high is going to be 32 degrees and the silver lining is having the day off.  My friend will be coming over later on.  It will be a fun time of opening “prezzies”, eating Thai curry, playing Wii U and watching Doctor Who.

To those of you who like having a break during the busy Christmas season, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  Time to watch the Christmas footage from 30 years ago…That’s me?  My, was I whiny!  Tee hee!

Me & My Muse Go To the Movies #6: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies – Part II

Okay.  It’s been almost a day since we saw the movie.  Are we going to talk about it, or what?

Muse:  Yes.  I’m ready.

You slept in quite a bit today, didn’t you?  Until 1:00 in the afternoon if I can recall correctly….

Muse:  There’s a reason for that.  For the remainder of the night, I kept having these nightmares about Azog.  I was cornered, and I was cut in two by his mace….

*sigh*  Is that the only reason?

Muse:  Yes.  I know….It’s pretty dumb, isn’t it?  I have these dreams a lot in some of the mystery books that I read….

Well anyway, let’s get to the movie.

http://imageserver.moviepilot.com/hobbit-battle-of-five-armes-battle-of-five-armies-go-behind-the-scenes-of-the-hobbit-with-thranduil-and-bard.jpeg?width=598&height=246

Let’s begin with first impressions.  What did you think of the beginning?  There was a scene where Smaug burned Laketown to a crisp.  After that, Bard saves the day.

Muse:  The beginning was pretty good.  Not to mention, the title card for the movie did not even appear until after Smaug was killed and it showed Erebor again.

After that, we see Tauriel, the elf that’s not supposed to exist lead the company of elves out of Laketown on a boat.  Not to spoil much, the dwarves get back to Erebor, the five armies assemble and there is an epic fight.

Muse:  Let’s get to the differences, since there are still some that infuriate me.

This seems to be the theme for the Hobbit.  Let’s try to see how many times we can contradict the book…

Muse:  And like before, they have done it again!  Like last time, Tauriel is still there.  She does NOT exist in the book and we don’t see Legolas until Lord of the Rings!  And like last time the plot builds on events that don’t exist in the book!  Galadriel helps Gandalf and Radagast escape.  Galadriel almost gets possessed by Sauron and tempted by him, but she casts him away into Mordor.  The dwarves NOT entering Erebor while Smaug was there when that happened TWICE in the book!

That’s quite a few differences!  Now…

Muse:  I’m not done!  One big mistake is that the movie included Azog!  Azog is supposed to be dead!  He existed 150 years before the events of The Hobbit! Thorin’s cousin Dain killed Azog at the Battle of Azanulbizar in the year 2799 T.A.  The Hobbit takes place 2941 to 2942 T.A.  With that said, that final fight with Azog is not supposed to exist!  Yes, Thorin dies in the book but it wasn’t from Azog!  And Tauriel is not supposed to exist!  I hate the stupid love triangle!  Urr…Jackson!  Why?

Okay.   There were a lot of big changes in the movie that were not very good.  One redeeming quality was the battle scenes near Erebor and Bilbo’s return to the Shire…

Muse:  Those scenes were good, but I HATED that final Azog battle scene!  He’s a walking contradiction to even still be alive!  Jackson probably wanted more action, so he “revived” him…

Indeed.  Anyone who has not read the book would not know any of this.

Muse:  I know!  That’s what makes me mad.  Anyone who has not read the books will not see the store as it should be.  Everyone.  Read the book! There are so many things wrong with this movie…

Now let’s get to the ending.  It ties back in to the events of The Lord of the Rings.  It’s Bilbo’s 111th birthday and Gandalf visits him once again.

Muse:  I like the parallel of him holding the ring in the past to him holding it 60 years later…

Overall, I give the movie a 4 out of 5.  The movie cannot be five stars, considering all the mistakes they made with the unnecessary additions…

Muse:  Really?  You’re being very generous.  I give it a 2 out of 5.  Because of that stupid final battle scene with Azog and all the other stupid additions that they made to this movie…

Thanks for you insight on all the differences.  With that, I will have to read the book again.

Muse:  Read it again, please! I have some more reading to do.

And my Galadriel dress needs to be washed.  It’s stained with popcorn seasoning from the other night.  See you tomorrow….

I’ll let you do that.

That’s it for the discussion.  Stay tuned for the review!

Until then, I’ll see you tomorrow!

Me & My Muse – Day 528: In It for the Long Haul

Having reviewed the kind of day that I have today, I will waste no additional time and cut to the chase.  I work a 8 to 3 shift at Little Caesars.  I will be cleaning the oven and then I’ll be covering a morning shift, in addition to my regularly scheduled shift that I work tomorrow.

Following that, I have a Toastmasters meeting in Saginaw.  Prior to the meeting, I have a business meeting that begins at 6:00.  After that is all over, my Thursday will be over.  That is a 13 hour day.  A day that I am eager to get started and underway.

Today’s high is going to be 31 degrees and the silver lining is tonight’s Toastmasters meeting.

To those of you who have experienced a long day, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse: *snore*  Just a couple more hours… *snore*

Me & My Muse – Day 527: Hobbit Hangover…AGAIN?

What do you get when you stay up until two in the morning and wake up at almost seven in the morning?  You get a Hobbit Hangover.  It’s really just a headache.  The movie was good, but the next day side effects aren’t.

Okay.  The headache really isn’t as bad as I’m making it out to be.  Now I’ll get to the movie….

That’s strange.  My Muse is not responding.  I’m guessing that she’s still sleeping.  We’ll discuss the movie when she’s awake.  I promise.

Today’s high is going to be 34 degrees and the silver lining will be watching the Survivor finale tonight.

To all of you who have experienced next day headaches,  I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  *snore*  No….Azog…..Stay away…..AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Me & My Muse Go To the Movies #6: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies – Part I

I just got back from the movie, and…..

Muse:  We’re not doing this.

But….

Muse:  I enjoyed the movie a lot.  I’m just too tired to discuss it tonight.  Can we discuss it tomorrow after I get some sleep?  Good night!

Sure.  We can do that.

Just to let you know, the movie was good and tomorrow, I’ll tell you why….

Me & My Muse – Day 526: The Battle Begins Tonight…

For those of you who don’t know, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies begins tonight.   I already have my movie ticket, so that really simplifies things…

Muse:  Aren’t you excited?  I surely am!

Yes.  I’m very excited!  To hold me over, I’ll be having some Christmas sweets at tonight’s Toastmasters meeting.

Muse:  I even dressed up as an Elf.  Don’t I look good?

Yes.  Very.  A very nice Galadriel.

Muse:  Thank you.  I will camp out by the theater while you’re at your Toastmasters meeting.

Go ahead and do that.  As for later,  I will be going to a Toastmasters meeting and then I’ll be going directly to the movie after that.  Later on, there will be a brief discussion about this movie, followed by a full movie review the next day.  So stay tuned for that.

Today’s high is going to be 44 degrees and the silver lining is seeing The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies tonight.

To all of you who like seeing a good movie, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  I even brushed up on my Elvish, and I’m pretty good at it!  I’m such a nerd.  Tee hee….

Me & My Muse – Day 525: One More Gift

That’s one more gift to buy, that is.  After that, my Christmas shopping will be officially done.

With two hours remaining before County Connection picks me up, I have the DEC meeting minutes to type.  I work from 3 to 7 and will be shopping after that.  After that, I will be headed home.

Muse:  You’re still shopping?  My shopping is done.   Tee hee…

I love your happy demeanor.

Muse:  I know.  It’s something I really enjoy.  It’s almost like I’m being tickled.  That’s the best way I can explain it.  Tee hee…

If you want, I can grant you a wish later…

Muse:  And what wish is that?

You would have to say it first.  “I wish that you would tickle me.”

Muse:  Oh.  That?  Tee hee!  I would be more than happy to make that wish!  I WISH that you would tickle me!  Tee hee!

It will be later, as I don’t want to do this in mixed company.

Muse:  I look forward to it very much.  Fairies are very ticklish.  Tee hee!

I need to get to business now.  I’ll see you later!

Muse:  I have a gift of yours to finish.  I’ll see you later.  Tee hee!

Okay.  Time to get ready.

Today’s high is going to be 51 degrees and the silver lining is getting more shopping done tonight.

To those of you who are almost done with their Christmas shopping, I hope that you all have a fantastic day.

Muse:  I hope that Kyle finds his future bride eventually.  I possess the characteristics of who she is.  It’s just a matter of him meeting her for the first time.  When he does, my true name will be revealed, for my name is the same one as hers.  *Muse looks at calendar*  Oh!  And 10 more days until Christmas!  Tee hee!
